The Eastern Africa Federation of Disabled (EAFOD) held its general assembly in March 2016. EAFOD is a federation of national organisations of persons with disabilities in the Eastern Africa sub-region whose core business is to strengthen these organisations through capacity building and information sharing as well as to encourage the establishment of such national umbrella federations/organisations in countries where they do not exist. Currently, EAFOD is made up of 15 member federations.
EAFOD works in collaboration with other agencies and organisations that have similar objectives key of which are organisations of persons with Disabilities. Together with its member National Federations, EAFOD has been a partner of EDAN both in the advocacy for the CRPD Ratification and implementation in the sub region which was a project in the work of EDAN in its last planning cycle. In the current planning cycle, we are partnering on inclusive Development and this comes at a time when the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) as the new international development platform for the next fifteen years.
During the assembly members received both programme narrative and audited financial reports. Members discussed the strategic priorities for the organization in the coming years as well as explored ways of resource mobilization. New members of the EAFOD Board were also elected. EDAN wishes the new Board members well as they work towards achieving EAFODs vision.
