Eastern Europe Consultation Statement

EDAN  organized a three days consultation for 25 participants in Eastern Europe at the Orthodox Academy of Greece between 28th September and 1st October 2009. The consultation brought together persons with disabilities and church work staff to among other things identify areas of concern in the region, constitute themselves into a network and work out strategies to engage with the churches in search of more meaningful inclusion, participation and active involvement in spiritual, social, economic and structural life of the Church and the society in general.

The Consultation specific objectives were:

1. To introduce the WCC work with persons with disabilities and to interact with the WCC Interim Statement on Disability- A Church of All and for All.

2. To facilitate meeting of disabled people representing their communities and churches in a process of identification of common regional disability concerns.

3. To create a sub regional network and establish the basis of a future ecumenical cooperation.

4. To initiate, and implement/work out strategies to engage with the churches in search of more meaningful inclusion, participation and active involvement in spiritual, social, economic and structural life of the Church and the society in general
